What makes a hotel sexy? If you’re the design director who worked on the Conrad Miami (among others) and you’re talking to Forbes for their Sexiest Hotels in America list, you may find yourself saying that a sexy “property has to withstand the concept of ‘trendy.’ Timelessness translates into integrity, which is extremely sexy. Secondly, and perhaps more importantly, the hotel has to focus attention on the guest. Nothing is sexier than a true, defined and integral sense of self.” Well, we thought sexy had more to do with see-through showers, overdone lobbies, good liquor, and staff members that flexible, and just fun to have around, but that’s probably just us. Here is the top 12 of sexiest hotels in the world :

St. Regis, Washington, D.C.
Talk about the ultimate in coddling: The top-to-bottom, 16-month renovation of the St. Regis gives the nation’s capital several exquisitely decorated suites, all of which come with personalized butler service. Each servant carries a wireless communications device that allows guests of the iconic hotel to email instructions from just about anywhere. The bespoke experience at this Italian Renaissance-style gem extends to the custom brass fittings and unique mosaics in all of the new bathrooms. Sills Hunniford, the Manhattan-based interior design firm, used its signature rust and gold color palette to brighten and streamline the interior.

Parker Palm Springs
We’ll concede that a golf course once favored by President Eisenhower doesn’t sound too sexy. But aside from the venerable links adjoining the property, few American resorts lay claim to such an intimate setting in the heart of the desert. The new owners have dropped the former Merv Griffin and Givenchy names, but the private villas and gardens remain as refined and inviting as ever. Each bathroom at Le Parker Palm Springs resembles a Roman bath, but in this case the magnificent views aren’t of

“Ian Schrager’s bold spin on Manhattan luxury hospitality design is a unique change from the standard,” says Katherine Cortese, lead designer at Wilson Associates. The combination of contemporary architecture with traditional furnishings, and extraordinary uses of color and artwork create a mood all of its own. The Setai, Miami
“Even though the guest is in the middle of the bustle of Miami, you can still find a tranquil element to rejuvenate your spirit,” says Katherine Cortese of Wilson Associates. The sleek styling of the guestrooms incorporates the bathroom into the bedroom space in a very innovative way. I prefer the comfortable secluded sitting areas outside at the restaurant that tend to evoke more of a sexy and romantic vibe.”

Hotel Hana, Maui
“This charming resort sits on the edge of beautiful, peaceful Hana, one of the last truly Hawaiian villages,” says Jim Guequierre, an associate at design firm Wimberly Allison Tong & Goo. The owners, ever mindful of the importance of the resort to the economy of this laid-back town, have restored the cottages along the coastal hills with culturally sensitive details, like 17th-century Kapa print bed covers on lau hala woven mats.

Romance, swans and European-style charm in the Hollywood Hills? Well, only a short and famous ride down Sunset Boulevard separates the Hotel Bel-Air and the lavish mansions in its vicinity from Tinseltown.
